Renewable energy 'the key to meeting Climate Change targets'
12 December 2008![]()
The Committee on Climate Change was right to put an emphasis on wind as a renewable form of energy, one expert claims.
According to Andrew Moore, Managing Director of British Eco Energy, wind energy is a "natural choice" for the UK as it looks to meet targets set by European Union legislation on climate change.
"It's a good fit, but we need to look at the planning permission laws and help people to put them up more quickly or more easily," Mr Moore continues.
He adds that only a "small proportion" of people and businesses are proactive in implementing eco-friendly measures, which will not help the UK meet its emissions targets.
The UK has been urged by the Committee on Climate Change to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by a minimum of 34 per cent by 2020, in order to restore them to levels seen in 1990.
In order to achieve this, both people and businesses are being encouraged to reduce their individual carbon footprints by using energy more efficiently in the home and in the workplace.
B P Collins acts for clients involved in all aspects of waste management and recycling. We also advise on environmental permitting and compliance issues. We have a long and established involvement in the renewable energy sector.
