Equal pay 'still 57 years away'
20 August 2010![]()
Equal pay conditions for men and women could be as far as 57 years off, a new report from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and XpertHR has found. The 2010 National Management Salary Survey discovered that over the past 12 months, salaries for women have increased by 2.8 per cent compared to 2.3 per cent for men, although disparity is still evident.
The average male manager currently earns £10,071 more than their female counterpart, suggesting men's pay outstrips women's by 24 per cent at senior level. CMI Head of Policy Petra Wilton commented: "Girls born this year will face the probability of working for around 40 years in the shadow of unequal pay. The prospect of continued decades of pay inequality cannot be allowed to become reality."
The report also identified that some sectors are better than others when it comes to pay equality, with the IT and pharmaceutical industries among the worst.
