Living Wills and Advance Directives
09 April 2009![]()
While Living Wills (otherwise known as Advance Directives) were meant to be superseded by Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) Personal Welfare, they can still have their place in planning for your future.
Although not legally binding, they can prove useful as to your wishes for future care and how you envisage you would be treated in the event that you could no longer make your own wishes known.
Consideration should be given to any wishes that you have made known while mentally capable, either verbally or in writing.
There are certain execution formalities with which to comply and, as well as giving copies of your Living Will to family members, you are advised to ask your GP to keep your Living Will with your medical records so that it can be accessed in case of an emergency.
