Jo graduated from University in Manchester and qualified as a solicitor in 1990. She joined the firm as an employment law specialist and became a partner in April 2000. Jo is well versed in all areas of employment law and regularly advises on business restructures, acquisitions and mergers, closures of final salary pension schemes and injunctive proceedings. She also specialises in discrimination and whistle-blowing claims and negotiates senior executive's exit strategies for both companies and individuals.
She acts for a broad range of corporate and high net worth private clients, notably acting for Dr Kuzel in her case against Roche and also acting in the now widely reported age discrimination case on behalf of a partner forced to retire in pursuance of a compulsory retirement clause (Seldon VS Clarkson Wright and Jakes). She also spearheads the practice's case study seminars and employment law publications.
Her three young children keep Jo busy outside the office and she is also the governor of a local school, although she enjoys relaxing whenever possible with a good book and an open fire.

Link with James
James is a graduate of the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the College of Law. He worked for a city firm Ashurst as a litigation assistant before undertaking his training with B P Collins, where he qualified as a solicitor, being promoted to partner in May 2010.
James advises on all aspects of employment law in both the private and public sectors. He specialises in statutory and contractual disputes (involving employees, directors, agents, consultants, workers and partners), collective consultation issues, executive terminations and the domestic employment aspects of national and international business mergers and acquisitions.
James has advised and been involved in cases at all levels, including cases that have gone before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. James often works in tandem with specialist counsel on high value, complex and appellate level actions. He remains however a keen proponent of limiting unnecessary costs for clients, either by utilising alternative dispute resolution methods in litigation, such as mediation, or, where mediation fails, of solicitors undertaking their own advocacy. He regularly represents clients before the Employment Tribunal and in the Employment Appeals Tribunal. He also represents clients before the High Court on interlocutory matters.
James is trusted adviser and first port of call on employment matters to a variety of clients operating in a number of different sectors, including a national convenience food retailer (one of the ten largest privately owned companies in the UK), one of the world's leading automotive suppliers, a national charity and a global retailer in the consumer technology industry (with operations in 14 countries).
A regular commentator on employment law topics in the press, James was recently interviewed on BBC radio regarding discrimination and gender inequality in the workplace.
