Farmer granted 'will inheritance' by Law Lords
31 March 2009![]()
A farmer has successfully overturned a high court decision concerning his inheritance.
David Thorner has finally been given the farm in Somerset, valued at around £2 million, that he worked on for 30 years without pay believing that he would inherit it after its owner, his father's cousin, passed away.
Having initially been included in a 1997 will by 75-year-old Peter Thorner, the 58-year-old volunteer was not included in a subsequent will when the original document was revoked.
But a decision by the court of appeal last year that denied Mr Thorner the Steart Farm inheritance has now been overturned by Law Lords.
Speaking to the press last year, Mr Thorner said: "This was a battle to ensure just one thing; that the wishes and expectations of Pete Thorner were carried out."
In the absence of a will, the entire estate was due to pass to Peter Thorner's nearest relations.
