Footballer granted gagging order extension

An England footballer has been successful in his application to the High Court to have a gagging order extended. The sportsman, who is referred to in court documents as ZXC, asked for the original injunction to be continued in order to prevent details of his private life being made public.
The case was heard in private by Justice Kenneth Parker, who was adequately convinced by the evidence for the gagging order presented by Hugh Tomlinson QC. Requests were made by the footballer for the case to remain behind closed doors, otherwise the object of the legal case would be defeated.
"It is an injunction which does not seek to conceal its own identity, but seeks to conceal the identity of the claimant and the defendant because it is an injunction which relates to private information," Mr Tomlinson clarified. An injunction will now remain in place until a further order is issued or court action is sought.
