British law and justice system among the best, says Liz Truss
Business leaders across the world prefer their commercial contracts to be governed by "our law", says Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor Liz Truss.
Speaking to judicial heads, Ms Truss says Britain's judges are celebrated for being incorruptible and its lawyers have a reputation for excellence.
She said "Global Britain" would always be "outward-facing" as she addressed judges and lawyers at a ceremony to mark the start of the legal year in London.
"We know, and the world knows, that our law, and our justice system, are among the best," said Ms Truss.
"Our lawyers, also represented by many among you, have a global reputation for excellence that is second to none."
The Justice Secretary says it is for those reasons that business leaders, from London to Asia, prefer UK law to be the governing law for their commercial contracts.
Ms Truss, Conservative MP for South West Norfolk, became the first female Lord Chancellor earlier this year after Theresa May became Prime Minister.
