Commercial litigation expert Craig has an excellent reputation for solving disputes in the corporate, asset-based lending, waste management and environment sectors. He also acts for corporate clients on a number of regulatory matters.
Craig also specialises in private sector work, handling a range of litigation involving wills, trusts and probate. He has a particular focus on contentious inheritance disputes, including the validity of testamentary documents, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975 and disputes regarding the administration of trusts and estates
Experience
Craig has built up an impressive track record at court and has led the team to success in High Court trials, including a libel claim involving a jurisdiction challenge under the Recast Brussels Regulations, an unfair prejudice (minority shareholder) action over an accountancy practice and a worldwide freezing injunction and claim for deferred consideration following the sale of a business.
Craig is an experienced mediation advocate and is an accredited mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution CEDR. He has settled a variety of commercial and private client disputes using a range of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
He is also a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).
Key achievements
Craig’s experience as a top litigator was recognised when The Lawyer included him in its 2018 Hot 100 lawyer list. Craig shares the accolade with some of the “most daring, innovative and creative lawyers from in-house, private practice and the Bar,” according to the magazine.
Craig is a prominent contributor to B P Collins’ annual environment round table, with his opinions featuring regularly in environment sector titles.
Craig and his team made new law when they defended a £3m claim against his waste management client after the claimant tried to accept an old settlement offer, half way through the trial. The decision was heavily reported on the question of whether or not to allow acceptance of a Part 36 offer during trial.
Described as a “phenomenally good solicitor”, Craig has been singled out for his “unflappability” and praised for providing “pragmatic, impartial advice”.
Outside the office
In his spare time, Craig enjoys mountaineering, running and football.
