Google 'in talks to enter property market'
08 December 2009![]()
Google looks set to enter the UK property sales and rental market after entering into talks with estate agents. According to the Financial Times, this would pose a threat to both newspapers and traditional estate agents if it comes into force early next year.
"It looks very simple. If it stays free, then Google has a massive winner on its hands as it will get the backing from estate agents currently paying for rival sites," Commercial Director at Douglas & Gordon Ed Mead told the newspaper. Google has already set up a similar service in Australia using pictures from its Street View facility.
The plans would see estate agents submitting their listings for free, which would generate advertising revenues for Google. The search engine has so far refused to comment on the proposals, which have so far appeared not to have had too much of a negative impact on Australian property sellers.
