Probate must be sought for premium bonds
22 April 2010![]()
Executors of wills must bear in mind that premium bonds are eligible for probate, Daniel Howard from Skipton Financial Services has advised. Responding to an enquiry for thisismoney.co.uk, he indicated that the only situation in which these investments may be exempt is if the deceased left less than £5,000.
In many cases, the executor will have to send a death certificate and copy of the will, providing one had been written, Mr Howard revealed. In the case he was responding to, the executor was left with £30,000 of premium bonds which had been acquired after the will was written, therefore making them liable to probate.
