The Legal 500, one of the UK’s leading legal directories, has announced its much anticipated results for 2022.  B P Collins has achieved top tier and recommended rankings in 11 practice areas, including property litigation for the first time, and 28 rankings for individual lawyers across the firm.

Property litigation ranked for the first time

According to The Legal 500, B P Collins’ property litigation practice, “has a notable strength in commercial landlord and tenant disputes, including dilapidations, forfeitures, lease renewals and breaches of covenant,” and has “clients such as major retailers, national waste management companies, energy providers and high net worth individuals.” A client who was advised by the property litigation team said that they are, “everything you want in a firm – on top of all the material, honest and hardworking and totally committed to their clients.”

Property litigation practice head and partner, Phil Hind, is also recognised as a “Rising star” with one client noting that he, “offers practical and commercially savvy advice, [and is] extremely knowledgeable.” His colleague, associate Elliott Brookes, is ranked as a ‘key lawyer’, who is part of the property litigation team that another client describes as, “professional, yet friendly. Big enough to cope, small enough to care. [It] is quality and joined up.”

New individual rankings

Simon Carroll, a partner in the Tier 1 commercial dispute practice, is now regarded as a “Next Generation Partner,” by The Legal 500 with a client reporting that he, “is a precocious young talent who looks set to make a big impact.”

The work of B P Collins’ environment team has also been recognised with Alison Taylor, Simon Carroll and Phil Hind regarded as “key lawyers”, bringing the total number to seven in the practice who’ve been recognised by directory. One client reports that Simon,” is [a] key contact for commercial and regulatory disputes in the recycling arena, and is a regular point of contact for several of the firm’s panel appointment clients.” Another client says that Phil Hind, (along with Craig Williams), “…are both standout lawyers from the team. Their insight and knowledge within the sector is excellent.’ Meanwhile Alison Taylor, “is always excellent to work with as she has fantastic market knowledge, is a great negotiator and very commercial,” according to client feedback.

Partner and leader of the dispute resolution team, Matthew Brandis, is noted as a “key lawyer” in contentious trusts and probate, after The Legal 500 reported he “is highly experienced” in this area. One client said, “Matthew Brandis was efficient and knowledgeable of our circumstances. He was tenacious in dealing with other solicitors involved in getting the information we required. He made the whole process from our point of view easy and made us feel our goal was attainable. He kept in regular contact throughout the process.”

Martina Razaq, property partner, who “handles complex property transactions and leads the residential sub-team”, is now regarded as a ‘key lawyer’. One client testified that Martina, along with Alison Taylor and Maria Mowberry, who are also partners in B P Collins’ property practice, “are very knowledgeable and experienced.”

Simon Deans, B P Collins’ senior partner, comments on the results:

“Congratulations to all of the teams and lawyers, for achieving these fantastic results and to our property litigation practice for being recognised for the first time. The fact that these results are based on independent feedback from clients means so much. It is testament to the hard work of everyone here at B P Collins to ensure we support our clients to help them achieve their goals.”
