Home Office figures indicate that nearly 750,000 applications for settled status have yet to be submitted, which could put some EU nationals at risk of not registering before the current deadline of 31 December 2020.
“The EU Settlement Scheme remains the only mechanism currently available for EU nationals to secure their status in the UK and therefore our advice continues to be that they should apply as soon as possible.”
According to People Management magazine, there were 2,756,100 settled status applications submitted by the end of December 2019. But with an estimated 3.5 million EU nationals currently living in the UK, this means there are still around 744,000 settled status applications, which could still be submitted before the deadline. This would mean processing more than 14,000 applications a week, which could delay the process.
If employees of UK businesses, and their family members, are EU, EEA or Swiss citizens, have been concerned about the application process, B P Collins can hold a seminar at their place of work. The tailored session could help to reassure employees and advise on progressing their applications; and in the process, enable employers to retain their workforce, and plan for the future.
