Acas publishes new advice on recruitment and induction

Getting the recruitment process right is vital to ensure that you not only select the most suitable candidate for the vacancy but also do so without falling foul of the applicable law.

To this end, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) has launched two new guides for employers and managers to assist with recruiting new staff and also with designing a successful induction programme.

The new guides are:

Recruiting staff

This covers a range of issues from hiring options to what essential documents are needed, as well as giving guidance on the process itself, from advertising a job to choosing the right candidate.

Starting staff, induction

This provides practical advice on steps to take before a new employee starts and throughout the first year of his or her employment. It also gives specific guidance on recruiting young people, including school, college and university leavers. See

The guides also include free tools, templates and checklists to assist in the recruitment and induction processes.
