1.4m EU citizens have still not applied for settled status

The Government has released the latest figures summarising the number of applications made under the EU Settlement Scheme.

Despite now being open for 9 months and there being two occasions in that period where a no deal exit came close, there are still an estimated 1.4 million EU citizens and their family members who have not applied for settled or pre-settled status in the UK.

If employees of UK businesses, and their family members, are EU, EEA or Swiss citizens, and have been concerned about the application process, B P Collins can hold a seminar at their place of work. The tailored session could help to reassure employees and advise on progressing their applications; and in the process, enable employers to retain their workforce and plan for the future.

Chris Brazier, business immigration and employment partner says:

“With so much uncertainty around Brexit now that we have a general election on the horizon, it is understandable that some EU citizens living in the UK may want to wait to see what happens next. However, the EU Settlement Scheme remains the only mechanism currently available to secure your status in the UK and therefore, our advice continues to be that EU citizens should apply as soon as possible - particularly now there is a short period of relative stability before the next deadline of 30 January 2020.

“From a business perspective, encouraging and assisting your EU citizen employees to secure their status means that you can effectively plan for the future in the knowledge that they have done so and will not face uncertainty following last minute applications.”
