B P Collins LLP wins sports Workplace of the Year
A sporting combination of sponsorship activities, workplace events and employee achievements earned Buckinghamshire law firm B P Collins top honours as Workplace of the Year in the Bucks & MK Sports Awards 2012.
The award, announced on November 27 at a glittering reception at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for sporting heroes from across the region, caps a memorable year of success for the Gerrards Cross-based legal firm.
The firm supports a wide range of local community sporting groups and is a main sponsor of the Bucks Sporting Lunch Club and GX Fun Run, as well as encouraging staff to keep fit through a number of incentives, including in-house yoga classes, a power walking club, a football and cricket team, plus many more opportunities.
A delighted David Stanning, senior partner, said: “I’m proud that we have won this award, which will serve as a benchmark for our future contribution to sport in Bucks. It’s a privilege and pleasure to be part of the county’s Olympic legacy and I’m confident this will encourage all members of the firm to appreciate the benefits of being fitter, as well as reminding them of how in a modest, but enjoyable, way we can do something for the local community.”
The award was sponsored and presented by the managing director of The Centre:MK and the evening was hosted by Olympic badminton silver medallist Gail Emms and BBC's Shaun Peel, with guest of honour triple Paralympic gold winning medal equestrian Sophie Christensen.
Every year, the Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Awards celebrate the amazing achievements of everyday individuals, teams, workplaces and organisations across the county in the field of sport and physical activity.
The Workplace of the Year is one of nine prestigious awards and the judges were looking for organisations that demonstrate commitment to keeping their staff physically active by setting up a range of activities. Following on from the glory of London 2012, they were also looking for commitment to legacy programmes and support for local community events and sports clubs.
In its winning entry, B P Collins listed its wide ranging support for sport, which in addition to its sponsorship of the Bucks Sporting Lunch Club includes:
- gold sponsor since its inception of the annual Gerrards Cross Fun Run, in which the B P Collins’ team has been victorious for the last two years in the corporate team category
- membership of Reactive Bucks, which works to support sporting legacy programmes throughout 2013 and beyond
- local sponsorship of groups including Gerrards Cross tennis club, Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross cricket clubs, Wycombe Wanderers Football Club and London Wasps Rugby Club
- cycle to work scheme for employees and discounted gym membership.
In addition, partner Diane Yarrow achieved her own sporting glory when, as a member of the Upper Thames Rowing Club, she coxed her crew to string of victories, culminating in the title of Champions of Great Britain 2012 at the British Rowing Championships.
Diane also volunteered her expertise for LOCOG in the run-up to the Olympic Games and marketing executive Steve Perry was a games maker at London 2012.
