Charities that help male sufferers of domestic abuse see surge in calls for help

Charities that help men who suffer domestic abuse, have seen requests for help increase by up to 60 per cent.

Respect Men's Advice Line said it had received 13,812 calls and emails between April to July 2020, compared to 8,648 in the same period in 2019.

Ippo Panteloudakis from Respect said:

"It was absolutely clear the lockdown period exacerbated everyone's domestic abuse experiences.

"[Sufferers] were talking about increases in violence, increases in psychological abuse and becoming homeless as a result of the domestic abuse and not having anywhere to go.”

More than 40,000 calls and contacts were also made to the National Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Refuge, during the first three months of lockdown, mostly by women needing help.

If you’d like to speak in confidence to the family team about how B P Collins can help, you can call 01753 279046 or email sue.andrews@bpcollins.co.uk.

If you’re experiencing abuse, you can also call the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline for free on 0808 2000 247 and anyone in danger should call 999.

If your friend or family member is a victim of domestic abuse, you could provide information on organisations that offer help to victims and their children and explore available options with them. You can also help them to report an assault to the police if they choose to do so and you could go with them to see a solicitor if they are ready to take this step.
