‘Don’t let employees pay Brexit price’
Employment rights will be put at risk if Britain rushes into Brexit without having a "watertight plan for jobs" in place, the TUC is warning.
The federation of trade unions says guarantees to protect employees' rights should be put in place before the Government triggers Article 50 to begin the process of leaving.
They include, it says, the right of EU citizens already working here to remain in the UK.
Without guarantees to protect jobs, industry and employment rights, the TUC says, employees will end up "paying the price" for the decision to leave the EU.
Its general secretary, Frances O'Grady, says without a "watertight plan" the living standards of workers will be adversely affected.
How the country prepares for Brexit, she says, will have implications for "many generations" of employees to come.
What is now required, Ms O'Grady adds, is a "national conversation" that establishes a relationship with the EU that is "fair and balanced for everyone".
