Furlough scheme ends today

Today, (30th September), the furlough scheme comes to an end. According to the Office for National Statistics, one million workers were expected to still be on the scheme at the end of September. Since the start of the pandemic, the scheme has helped to pay the salaries of 11.6 million workers.

As the scheme concludes, the Bank of England are expecting a slight rise in unemployment figures. The Institute of Fiscal Studies also previously believed it would lead some businesses to consider whether they could retain their staff.

Chris Brazier, employment partner, B P Collins says:

“Employers and their staff may experience further changes after today.  The employment team at B P Collins are here to help clients overcome any problems they might be facing over the coming months.”
