The cabinet has given the green light for the UK to fully prepare for a no-deal Brexit as the likelihood of leaving the EU without any agreement escalates.

The government said its priority was still to secure a deal, but that it had an obligation to prepare for every outcome including a no-deal Brexit.

Officials will aim to communicate with British businesses, calling on them to formalise their own contingency plans. Households will also be advised through various channels of the no-deal preparations they should undertake.

Exporters have already been contacted by the HMRC about changes to customs arrangements.

Victoria Holland, partner, B P Collins, adds:

“With only 101 days until the UK leaves the EU, the government believes it is now a matter of urgency that businesses and households have contingency plans in place to prepare for a no-deal Brexit. B P Collins’ Brexit team can help - get in touch to discuss any issues pertinent to you.”
