Schoolchildren’s winning Christmas design to help older people in Bucks

Children from schools in Buckinghamshire are winners in a competition sponsored by Buckinghamshire-based solicitors B P Collins LLP, to design a Christmas card for local charity Age UK Buckinghamshire.

The theme of the competition was 'bringing young and old together at Christmas', as Age UK Buckinghamshire Chief Executive Giulia Johnson explains: " We decided to run a competition with local schools, both to provide us with some new designs for our Christmas cards this year and to see how children thought about age and older people, as more and more of us are living longer – particularly in Bucks.”

"Opening the competition to local Primary Schools in the region seemed a great way to help to achieve this and the children have been amazingly creative in their interpretation. It was a tricky job to choose the winners!"

The winners are eight and nine year old pupils Abby Price and Leah Thewlis from The Bourton Meadow Academy, Buckingham, Sophie George, aged 11 from Steeple Claydon Combined School, Buckingham, Natalia in year six at Millbrook Combined School in High Wycombe and Freya Hems and Saffron Brakewell, both aged 11, from Winslow CE Combined School.

Winner: 'Feast for All' by Abby Price (8) from The Bourton Meadow Academy

B P Collins are partnering with Age UK Buckinghamshire on a number of projects, and marketing manager Samantha Howe said: “We were delighted to sponsor the Christmas card competition and really enjoyed looking at many of the very creative and colourful entries.

"We thought this was an excellent way to highlight the bond between the county’s young and old at this special time of year and hope that plenty of cards are sold to raise funds for Age UK Buckinghamshire, which does such a great job supporting the elderly in the community.”

The competition was run amongst Primary Schools throughout Buckinghamshire and the cards from winning schools are on sale to raise funds for the charity which helps older and vulnerable people throughout the county with a range of services.

Winner: 'Reindeer' by Leah Shaw Thewlis (9) from The Bourton Meadow Academy

Giulia Johnson says: "The cards are on sale at the Age UK Buckinghamshire office at 145 Meadowcroft, Aylesbury, during office hours."
