The government have announced an £11m cash boost to promote healthier relationships between parents and help children get the best possible start in life.

Research has shown that frequent, intense and unresolved friction between parents can have long-lasting effects on children, even if the parents are separated. Conflict between parents can affect a child’s mental health, school grades and job prospects.

The Reducing Parental Conflict Programme, which currently works with almost 150 councils across England, aims to find new ways of helping parents address the underlying issues of conflict. The programme helps parents to understand each other’s difficulties through therapy and family fun days.

The government recognise that support for these issues is more important than ever during lockdown. With the current restrictions in place, all programmes can be delivered virtually and trained frontline staff will be looking to spot any signs of domestic abuse.
