According to a recent report by the BBC, the number of couples getting divorced in England and Wales surged by almost a fifth in 2019. This is the highest level in five years. It is predicted that numbers will continue to rise following the end of lockdown.

2020 has placed a strain on many relationships as we have spent more time at home, and little time with others. We have also had to cope with additional financial worries, as well as the pressures of working from home and home-schooling children, earlier this year.

The two key points of the year annually in terms of divorce enquiries tend to be in January and September, due to the holiday periods preceding them, with the increased time spent together for many couples exacerbating the problems in the relationship. It seems that we are experiencing a change in trends, due to the current climate.

Dealing with the emotional turbulence a divorce entails and having to think about the associated financial matters and arrangements for children, can be overwhelming at the best of times. Dealing with these issues while the World faces one of its biggest challenges in recent times is something else entirely.

It is essential for anyone who finds themselves in this position to seek legal advice at the earliest opportunity. In our experience, the fear of the unknown is often the biggest anxiety people grapple with, when divorce becomes a reality. An experienced family lawyer can help allay those fears and achieve a solution that works for you and your family.

At B P Collins we have a strong offering of experienced family lawyers on hand to assist you. Please contact us on 01753 889995 or email enquiries@bpcollins.co.uk.
