Simon Carroll, partner in B P Collins LLP’s environmental team, and commercial litigation lead in the firm’s dispute resolution group, will be part of climate change discussions at COP28 in Dubai.

Some 200 nations will gather in Dubai in the UAE from 30 November to 12 December 2023 for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP). This year’s COP follows two years’ on from COP26 in Glasgow, where ambitious and key targets were set as part of a drive to achieve ‘net zero’.  Our article summarising the main impacts of COP26 in Glasgow can be found here.

Discussions this year are likely to focus on the 1.5C target, progress to date, and necessary corrective action to ensure global climate action remains on course. Key areas of focus are expected to include fast-tracking the move to clean/green energy, in an effort to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions before 2030; driving sustainable technology; climate finance, and delivering funding for climate change between countries; developing carbon markets; ensuring businesses are resilient to climate impacts; and helping to ensure a fair and just transition.

With various nations seeking to deliver on their net zero commitments, businesses and consumers can continue to expect changes in policy and regulation as discussions take place and issues develop.

Simon will be representing both West London Business and B P Collins LLP in Dubai. If you are heading to COP28, feel free to contact Simon directly by email simon.carroll@bpcollins.co.uk, 07894 608221 or DM on Linkedin.

He will be attending on the following days:

  • Sunday, 3 December (Health / Relief, Recovery and Peace)
  • Monday, 4 December (Finance, Trade, Gender Quality and Accountability)
  • Tuesday, 5 December (Energy, Industry and Just Transition)
