B P Collins LLP’s partner, Steven Smith has been appointed by the Lady Chief Justice, The Right Honourable the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill, to sit as a Deputy District Judge on the South Eastern Circuit.
His appointment follows a rigorous application process, in which candidates had to evidence their professional experience and demonstrate that they met the required judicial competencies.
Explaining his motivation to apply, Steven said:
“The work of a Deputy District Judge is incredibly varied and I will enjoy the opportunities and challenges which it offers. The experience of sitting as a part-time judge will be really valuable to my own practice and the wider team at B P Collins. I’m both delighted and honoured to have been appointed.”
Steven will sit for around 30 days a year as a Deputy District Judge and will continue his role as a partner in B P Collins’ dispute resolution team, where he specialises in commercial and construction disputes.
“B P Collins has been hugely supportive of my application and this appointment would not be possible without their backing,” he said.
